ESSA Information for LCSD

The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) replaced its predecessor, the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act in 2015 and New York State's ESSA plan in 2018. ESSA is focused on preparing all students to succeed in college, careers, and civic life. It provides a framework for every student to receive a well-rounded education no matter who they are, where they live, where they come from, or where they go to school. The plan emphasises equity in education for all students.

Schools use enrollment in free and reduced lunch programs to qualify for these funds. In Le Roy, our Wolcott Street School is designated as an ESSA school so we can receive these funds. The goal of the funds is to ensure that struggling students are supported to meet the same standards as all other students. Schools have choice in how to provide supplemental services or AIS for students as they set up their ESSA/Title One Program.

In Le Roy, we have been working with parent groups, surveying the community, and increasing our ability to share and gather information to help our students succeed. We have parent groups in each building. Please consider joining one of these committees because we value your input!
